Monica Wiley and a Freshmade Contribution

Niki can attest to the loveliness of this next contributor. She's as talented as she is beautiful. She approaches endeavors with the perfect blend of fun and class and we are so thrilled that Monica has chosen to contribute to the Warren Todd blog. If you've taken time to check out our blog in the past, you'll see that we mix it up. After all, brands come in all shapes and sizes, and inspiration is universal. We hope you find the words of Monica and the works of Freshmade to be as exceptional as we do! Notably, what a great example Freshmade is of how to approach the world of branding! We strongly suggest you venture over to this amazing company to learn and enjoy the resources involved. We believe this is a phenomenal and important cause and concept placed into action and would expect nothing less out of anything with which Monica supports and associates.

First, a little about Monica and her latest venture:

Originally from Maine, Monica is a foodie enthusiast with a theatre arts background. She is the founder/owner/baker of Monicakes Bakery which specializes in the internationally acclaimed “Monicake,” a cookie filled with cake. Monica is a proud member of Actor’s Equity Association, who has performed both regionally and off-Broadway.  Eager to combine her passion for food with entertainment, Monica created the kid’s cooking show, Monica’s Mixing Bowl, which empowers families with knowledge about food, allergies, and dietary restrictions through the help of narrative, puppets, and songs.  Monica is thrilled to join the Freshmade NYC team to continue developing how to promote kids health education in fun and entertaining ways.  Monica holds a BA in Theatre Arts from Brown University and an MFA in Acting from Brown/Trinity Rep.

In the words of Monica:

When we get home from apple picking, the first question from my family is “when will the apple pie be ready?”.  Believe me, I love apple pie and any apple based dessert – in fact I create recipes all year in anticipation of apple season. But this year I decided to expand my scope of apple recipes because apples aren’t just for dessert. The moment I gave myself permission to experiment with apples in meals, it was like a whole new world opened up! I’m not talking about just slicing an apple and putting it on top of a salad. These meals would not be the same if the apple wasn’t there - apples are highlighted in the recipe and enhance flavor. Below are 5 top apple recipes from Freshmade NYC's Fall curriculum.

Encourage your little chefs to get involved by helping chop, mix, and assemble your meal. The best part about cooking is making it a family experience, so let your little one touch, feel, and smell all the ingredients – this turns making dinner into a full sensory experience.  We hope your family enjoys the recipes as much as we do and let's celebrate that apples aren’t just for dessert!
